Believe Inna Me Like Anju

Recently I saw someone post on their WhatsApp status “Me wish if somebody did believe inna me like how Anju believe inna de curfew.” Of course, I doubled over in laughter because the poster was trying to highlight the irony of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Jamaica despite the impositions of curfews by the Prime Minister. The post got me thinking though, that Anju really believes in these curfews. Why would someone for over a year continue to do the same thing, albeit with a few variations, if he did not believe in its efficacy. If only the people shared his convictions – they would strive to make it work.

Further dissection of the WhatsApp post in question led me to infer that the poster wanted someone to believe in her. She wanted someone to have faith in her. She wanted someone to believe that she had the potential to achieve greatness. Who knows the profound effect that a belief in her could achieve? This led me to the fact that we all need a Anju in our lives. We all need someone who believes in us. Someone who sees and believes in the potential in us. Someone who still believes though we are yet to yield the expected or anticipated results. Someone who will give us chances to succeed time and time again. We all need someone who sees in us what we fail to see in ourselves.  We all need a Anju who will show us that no matter how much resistance we face, we must keep trying.

Not only do we need a Anju in our lives, we also need to be Anjus for others. We need to let people know we believe in them. We need to tell people we believe in their potential. We need to keep trying with that someone so that they can produce. Give an encouraging word. Give a little motivation, a little push, a little reminder. Are you an Anju? Have you told anyone that you believe in them? That it can be done. How much greatness lies in them? Do it, you never know the far-reaching effect it may have.

Many of us do not have a Anju in our life so we have to be our own Anjus. We have to reach way down and find him in ourselves. We have to believe in ourselves. Sometimes we have to believe in ourselves first so that others can or will. It is often said that the greatest strength often times comes from within, and in order to achieve greatness, we must believe in ourselves. However, there are moments when we need someone outside of ourselves to believe in us in order to lift us up especially during those times of self-doubt and waning self-confidence. Many of us are not even sure what possibilities lie in us or we  lack the confidence that what is in us can lead to greatness.

Greatness lies in you. Greatness lies in me. Be an Anju today.

Believe in him. Believe in her.

Believe in yourself!

  1. So true. When we are extrinsically motivated and or encourage by others this can leave a life changing impact.

  3. Good read. This made me realize that I need to do some serious self introspection. Just imagine the results if all of us have one "Anju" or if as individuals, we decide to be that "Anju". #Alwaysbelieveinyourself

  4. The blog was food for thought. However, my support Anju is Faith in God's Word. This motivates me to live life to the fullest regardless of my circumstances.

  5. Great read. It's really important for us to give that extra push and motivation to the people around us. Give what you want to receive.

  6. So much to think about here. Sometimes ones potential is not revealed until they get a little push, that vote of confidence. We all need a Anju. We all should try uo be a Anju.
