A little less force please

I have a bad habit of squeezing pimples on my face. I try extremely hard to resist the temptation but as the name and nature of the word (habit) suggests, it is hard to stop doing it. I just can’t seem to help myself. There have been times when I squeeze and scrape them so much that I end up with little scabs on my face. About two months ago, I saw a pimple appear. I watched it for three days resisting the urge to just pop it. I watched it getting riper and riper (if that is the appropriate description) but basically, I watched it till the head turned yellow. When I touched it, it was rather tender and so, so easy to squeeze it. After the third day I gave in……I squeezed it. What is wrong with you, Sherine?

More recently, I saw another one appear right in the centre of my forehead. I decided to try again. I kept playing over and over in my head I won’t squeeze it; I won’t squeeze it. Anyways, I was standing in the bathroom one night looking at this temptation so glaringly in the mirror and an idea came to me. I reached for my bottle of black dressing (Glycerin of Ichthammol) and applied it to it and covered it. I decided to experiment. I know that black dressing can be used to pull out pus so I thought to myself let me see if it will pull out whatever is in this pimple. When I woke up the morning, the pimple was more pronounced, I looked like a unicorn and believe me when I told you that I fought (like literally fought the temptation to squeeze.) It was a Saturday and I had no work so I figured I would just keep the bandage on.  That night I applied more black dressing and covered it again. Lo and behold the next morning there was no pimple. My unicorn had shrunk. Just an incy little black dot remained of my unicorn. I had defeated it.

Then it came to me; if I only I could approach difficult circumstances in my life with the same resolution….not to force things. Many times in life we try to force and rush things. We try to force an end to situations, relationships, circumstances that are uncomely. Sometimes we force ourselves into clothes and our feet into shoes that just aren’t our fit. The repercussions of which end up hurting us way more than we bargained for. Let us resolve to applying some black dressings to those uncomely people, situations or circumstances in our lives.

What is black dressing though? Glycerin of Ichthammol is a medication that works by softening the skin and slowing down the growth of bacteria. What is our life’s black dressing because we certainly can’t apply the dressing to our real-life circumstances? We will diffuse situations where possible and gently slow down and ease our way out or in. We won’t rush or be too hasty. Sometimes when we squeeze, force, rush and apply too much pressure too early we end up with sores.

Be soft, be gentle, ease your way.

  10. With that said we all could possibly relate to situations that had affected us at one point or the other where we thought our lives depended on whatever we should let go of but was too stubborn to let go till it hurt us .
We could say black dressing resolve a pimple ,a small issue nevertheless a major mental problem (or so we thought ) but what about a boil its much larger and more painful ,what would we suggest is the solution to that ,as for me I'd suggest prayer ,let Jah fix it because we may very well try the fix it yourself approach and it becomes a sore ,that's just life .

    1. Indeed, indeed. Not everything can be fixed by man. As the songwriter says
“Let Jesus fix it for you. He knows just what to do.”
